Warrensburg:
Ruth Frances Margaret Jackson, 88, of Warrensburg, NY and River Vale, NJ, passed away on April 19, 2012 at The Pines in Glens Falls, NY.
Margaret was born in Omaha, Nebraska on March 21, 1924, the only child of the late Eva (Fisbeck) and Jens Andersen. After her father’s death in 1925 her mother married Frank Carson, which gave her two step brothers, Frank and Dick Carson, both deceased. She graduated from Hackensack High School and went on to graduate from Berkeley Secretarial School, New York City. After graduating she worked for the Metropolitan Opera Guild in New York City. During World War II she worked at Wright’s Aeronautical in East Patterson, making airplane parts. Her mother worked in her brother-in-law’s restaurant, Nystrom’s in River Edge, NJ. At the suggestion of a fellow employee who had a brother, Herb in the service, Margaret began a correspondence with him. After many letters and one visit, Margaret and Herbert Bertram Jackson were married in 1946 and lived in New Milford, NJ. In 1954 they moved to River Vale, and then in 1975 to Oradell, NJ.
Margaret is survived by her only child Sandra, her cousin James Nystrom, many nieces and nephews and her close friends Anne Goll and Regina Porter.
Margaret was the School Business Administrator for the Oradell, School, retiring after over 20 years. One of Margaret’s passions was bowling, and at one time she had thoughts of becoming a professional bowler. She was an accomplished seamstress, making many of her daughter’s clothes, including her wedding dress. She was an assistant Girl Scout leader in Hackensack, NJ. She was also an avid bridge player and reader.
Margaret and her late husband were very active in the Bergen County (NJ) Historical Association. She was a Trustee and also the Treasurer for the Association. After Herb’s death in 1992, Margaret moved up to the North Country to be near her daughter who lives in Warrensburg, NY with her husband, Steve Parisi.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours scheduled.
If one wishes, Margaret requested that donations in her memory be made to the Warrensburgh Historical Society Museum Fund, PO Box 441, Warrensburg, NY 12885.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Terrace at the Glen at Highland Meadows and the staff at The Pines at Glens Falls (formerly Eden Park) for the wonderful care given to Margaret and her family.
