Obituary of Lillian E. Amodeo

Corinth: Lillian E. Amodeo, 92, of Wall Street, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born September 29, 1918 in Staten Island, she was the daughter of the late Lillian (Hagner) and Fred M. Flor. Affectionately known by her friends as “Evy” or Evelyn, she was a graduate of Tottenville High School, later completing her studies from business school. Lillian was employed by several firms in NYC before family life took the place of the business world. Later in life, when her children were grown, she would return to work as a research assistant for several Wall Street firms. She married Nicholas F. Amodeo December 15, 1937 on Staten Island, where they raised their family until retiring and relocating to Pottersville in 1973, then again to Corinth in 2008. The couple was married for over 72 years until Nick’s passing in March of last year. Besides being a devoted mother and wife, Lillian still found the time and energy to pursue many worth while interests. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Reserve Officers Women’s Club, Boy Scout Women’s Auxiliary, and Pottersville Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She took up the sport of golf in her 60’s and enjoyed playing in the Chestertown Ladies Golf League. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Family always came first for Lillian. She was always there to provide whatever she could in times of crisis, and will be greatly missed by all. Besides her beloved husband, Nicholas, she was predeceased by her brother, John Flor. Lillian leaves behind two sons, Nicholas J. Amodeo and his wife Ann of Warrensburg; Alan Amodeo and his wife Joyce of Corinth; her daughter, Janine Russell and her husband Nathan of Bakers Mills; granddaughter, Melissa Reed and her husband Gary of Queensbury; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Lillian’s request, there will be no calling hours scheduled. A private memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations, made in Lillian’s memory to the Chestertown Helper’s Fund or Corinth Emergency Squad.
